1961 – 1980 passou sua infância e adolescência nessa pequena cidade rural. Estudou na escola primaria, tendo como professora a artista plástica LUCIE KAISER. Em seguida passa para o Heilig-Geist-Gymnasium (“Ginásio do Espírito Santo”) onde participa intensamente das apresentações artísticas. Alem da musica erudita, Rock e Jazz, estudou latim e Inglês e passa suas férias em Sussex, Inglaterra, se dedicando à musica dos BEATLES e Andrew Lloyd Weber.
1973 – 81 Marcus ganha o seu primeiro instrumento e toma aula de VIOLAO CLÁSSICO na “Mendener Musikschule” (escola municipal de musica de Menden), onde também aprende o primeiro toque na área de Jazz. Mais tarde trabalha como professor dentro da mesma.(2)(3)

Estréia num grupo de teatro da cidade de Menden, sobre a direção de Bärbel Schmidt, fazendo papel principal na peça infantil “Aladim e a lâmpada mágica”.
Entra como cantor principal na banda de Rock melódico,chamado “Schwan” (“Cisne “), qual ganha o premeu de melhor banda da região”.
Participa anualmente de seminários para estudantes do violão erudito com KARL SCHEIT (Viena), Graf (Essen) e a Cantora lírica HANNELORE.(4)
Canta no Coral da escola “Heilig-Geist”, como também no FOLKLOREKREIS coordenado por BARBEL SCHMIDT, incluindo viagens para Bélgica.
1980-83 Forma com BENNY MOKROSS na bateria, GREGOR LINDEMANN no baixo e dois outros participantes, uma banda chamada PARAMARIBO juntando elementos de Jazz e Rock, mostrando influencias do guitarrista e compositor finlandês Jukka Tolonen, como as do saxofonista alemão Klaus Doldinger.

1987 – 1990 de volta na Alemanha entra na UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL de Dortmund, se dedicando a estudos da Bach até Villa-Lobos. Recebe ali também aulas de piano e canto lírico.
Passa a usar o seu nome artístico MARCUS CASTELO .Trabalha como interprete da Bossa Nova e MPB ao redor de sua cidade natal.(8)(9)
